Depending on your destination you will be requested to pay a charge for the carriage of excess baggage. Charges will be applied according to the "piece concept" (flights to/from USA, U.S. territories, Canada and Mexico) or the "weight concept" (flights to/from all other destinations).
You can easily calculate your excess baggage fee according to the following table.
Please notice, one piece of baggage may not weigh more than 32 kg (including excess weight).

Weight Concept

|
For weight concept a transparent system for charging excess baggage is applicable: the zone system.
The fee for 1 kg excess baggage is linked to the zone of your destination.
Examples:
-
fly between Vienna to London or Paris (= within Zone 2) - the fee will be 10 Euro for 1kg excess baggage
-
or from Moscow to Vienna (= from Zone 3) - the fee will be 20 Euro for 1kg excess baggage
-
or from Tehran to Bangkok via Vienna (= Zone 5) - the fee will be 40 Euro for 1kg excess baggage
The following zone table shows all destinations and the assigned flat rates for excess baggage:

Piece Concept

|
|
The piece concept is applicable for all flights to/from USA, U.S. territories, Canada and Mexico. Generally, you may take 2 pieces of baggage free of charge. Any additional piece of baggage and baggage exceeding the maximum weight and maximum dimensions will be charged as following:

Sports equipment
|
 |
|
|
Due to its volume the transport of sports equipment must be requested well in advance. For this purpose please contact your booking office or Austrian Airlines CallCenter on +43 (0)5 1766 1000.
Special service charges for sports equipment may apply. They depend on weight and length of the respective equipment as well as on the flight routing. Depending on your destination, the charges apply according to weight concept or piece concept.

Weight Concept for sports equipment
|

|
|
Sports equipment is not included in the free baggage allowance. Following flat fees apply for the transport of sports equipment in any case:

Exceptions:

1 ski - or snowboard equipment per passenger may be transported free of charge

HON Circle members, Senators and Frequent Travellers may take 1 sports equipment of the category "Small" or 1 golf equipment (up to 15kg/33lbs) without any surcharge

For Star Alliance Gold Card holders one golf equipment (up to 15kg/33lbs) is free of charge if within free bagagge allowance

Piece Concept for sports equipment

|
|
The piece concept is applicable to all flights to/from USA, U.S. territories, Canada and Mexico. Generally, sports equipment is within your free baggage allowance, provided it does not exceed the maximum weight and maximum dimensions. 1 ski- or snowboard equipment may be transported free of charge in any case. For items exceeding the free baggage allowance a flat rate will be charged. This charge depends on the weight and length of the sports equipment as well as on your destination.
