The first artist to exhibit, Anastasia Khoroshilova will open the Austrian Art Lounge. She will present a set of 6 photographs from her latest cycle, 'Russkie' ('Russians'). Her work 'Behin Lug', an examination of a town occupied in Russian literature, is currently on show at the Sakharov Museum in Moscow.
Anastasia Khoroshilova is 28 years old and one of the most exciting photographers in Russia today. The artist is concerned with the identity of her homeland in her works. She shows the faces of the 'new' Russia and the numerous facets that result from the peoples living there. 'Russkie' is her most monumental project to date. It is a study of numerous peoples of different nationalities and confessions, all of whom eventually have but one thing in common - the fact that they all live on Russian territory. Anastasia Khoroshilova shows a real and ambivalent picture of her homeland. For the photographer it is crucial, 'to find a spark of human, dignity and self-worth in the eyes of the handful of villagers'.
Khoroshilova positions the camera frontally, avoiding the need for extreme angles and complicated compositions. The light is bright and consistent, without sadness and happiness, romantic play or contrasts.
