Religious special meals

Menu suitable for the Hindu faith

This special menu is similar in taste to the Asiatic-vegetarian menu, while piquant and sweet seasonings such as coriander, sternanis, marsala, mint and saffron are also used in its preparation. Unlike the Asiatic vegetarian menu, the special menu suitable for Hindus includes chicken and lamb.

Halal menu (suitable for the Islamic faith)

Pork and all products from the pig (ham, gelatine, meat broth, etc.) are rigorously excluded from the dishes served here. In addition to this, neither alcohol nor alcohol-based ingredients are used in the preparation of the dishes.

Kosher menu (suitable for the Jewish faith)

According to Jewish religious law, the word “kosher” (“kasher” in Hebrew), meaning “without fault”, indicates that all the ingredients must correspond to the rules laid down in the Talmud. The kosher menu of Austrian Airlines is produced by Catering Bernholtz under the supervision of Rabbi Schwarz.

Vegetarian special meals
Vegetarian food without dairy products

The vegan diet only allows for foods of vegetable origin. This means that no meat-, fish, milk- and egg-based products whatsoever are used in the ingredients and the dishes themselves. These are replaced in part by soya products, while the special menu also features an imaginative range of raw vegetables, cooked vegetable and wheat dishes and fresh fruit.

Vegetarian food with dairy products

In addition to purely vegetable-based foods, this range of dishes includes milk products and eggs. This fundamentally improves the quality of protein and ensures sufficient intake of calcium, which strengthens the bones. In addition to containing a high proportion of fresh foods, therefore, this menu provides a light mixed meal of high dietary value.

Asiatic-vegetarian food

The taste of traditional Indian cuisine is growing in popularity all the time. Special seasonings such as marsala, cumin and fenugreek are used in abundance, while fish, poultry, red meat and sausage are strictly avoided. The most commonly used dairy product is shahinapeer, a fresh cheese of the sub-continent.
