Whether they travel in the company of adults or alone, flying is normally an enjoyable experience for children, and you should prepare for it accordingly. The Austrian Airlines Group pays special attention to families with children from the moment they arrive at the airport. One example of this is what is referred to as “pre-boarding”, when children and their escorts are allowed to board the aircraft before other passengers. We make every effort to make the journey as pleasant as possible for babies, children and their parents, and to support you in preparing for your flight. Below is a guide containing a range of tips designed to ensure a trouble-free travel experience for all, whatever their age.

Please note that government regulations state that infants below two years of age must be securely strapped to the lap of an adult with a child’s seat belt throughout take-off and landing, and whenever the ‘Fasten your seatbelt’ sign‘ is switched on.

We will of course be happy to provide you with a belt of this type, and our flight attendants will explain precisely how to use the belt.

Infants must always be accompanied by an adult and do not occupy their own seat when travelling. If you prefer that an infant should occupy its own seat, however, this can be arranged at the time of booking your own seat for a supplementary charge (in this case we charge a child fare).
Infants are given a 90% discount on most fares.

Children aged between 2 and 11 often get a discount of 33% of the applicable fare. Please check at the time of the exact conditions for children's fares.
