Austrian Airlines cooperates with Russian airline alliance AiRUnion

Since 19 February 2007, Austrian Airlines has been in cooperation with Russian airline alliance AiRUnion: an inspired East-West partnership between two airlines. For Austrian Airlines, AiRUnion, with its extensive route network stretching from Moscow across Central Asia to the Pacific, is the perfect partner in the Russian Federation. The companies’ joint hubs will be Vienna, Moscow Domodedovo, Krasnojarsk and Samara.
AiRUnion

AiRUnion is an alliance of five Russian airlines, Kras Air, Omskavia, Samara Airlines, Domodedovo Airlines and Sibaviatrans. The company operates a fleet of over 100 aircraft, carried approximately 3.2 million passengers in 2005 and reported a turnover last year of around EUR 573 million.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport
Austrian Airlines switches to Moscow Domodedovo, the airport with the densest domestic route network in the Russian Federation, on 19 February 2007. Domodedovo is an ideal hub for transfer passengers using the extensive route network of AiRUnion in the east. From the summer schedule 2007 onwards, AiRUnion plans to operate flights from Krasnojarsk via Moscow to Vienna. Aircraft of the types Boeing 767, 757 and 737 of AiRUnion will be used on the routes. In return, Austrian will carry passengers into the AiRUnion route network via Moscow.
Austrian destinations in Russia
Austrian Airlines currently flies to seven cities in Russia. In addition to Moscow and St. Petersburg, the company’s route network includes the cities of Yekaterinburg, Rostov on the Don, Sochi, Nizhniy Novgorod and Krasnodar. Around 200,000 passengers were carried on Austrian routes to and from Russia in 2006.
